Mission Statement:

Our mission as the South Brooke family is to glorify God and Emulate Christ in worship, in fellowship, and in serving the needs of others.

We dream of a church...

...where the Gospel is the underlying theme; where grace is accepted and extended; where the salvation of souls is the norm, not the exception; where love for people springs from love for God; where joy permeates the air; where people are one in spirit; where service is considered a privilege and not a burden.

...where people find real help, experience real change and discover real answers; where marriages are healed and parents’ hearts are turned toward their children; where destructive lifestyles, habits, addictions and compulsions are forever jettisoned; where wasted lives are retrieved and new beginnings are launched.

...where God’s Word is exalted in authority, studied with expectation, taught with relevance, heard with anticipation, and obeyed with passion; where the preaching is encouraging, positive and practical.

...where prayer is the under-girding and engulfing medium for all we do and for every initiative we take.

...where people are free to attempt great things for God; where taking risks for his kingdom is an exalted virtue; where people have nothing to prove and therefore nothing to lose; where creativity and innovation are honored, not feared; where all kinds of people serve God in diverse ways with mutual love, encouragement, respect, and unity.

...where people’s hearts beat for God’s work around the world; where impact is made on lives across the street and around the world; where short-term workers regularly go out to minister internationally and return with a world perspective.

...where the challenge of nurturing new, cutting-edge ministries becomes reality; where past traditions form the foundations for launching new innovations, not the ball and chain to impede them; where many men and women are effectively trained and actually entrusted with the work of the ministry; where partnerships are formed by networking with other ministries to further the cause of Christ.

...where children and youth are nurtured in the faith; where they are made strong in their ability to serve the Lord and stand for him in their world.

...where God is worshiped joyfully and reverently; where the music is Christ-honoring and relevant; where worship is a significant event which encourages believers and transforms them into the triumphant army of God; where worship communicates to the visitor the greatness of our God, the joyfulness of the Christian life, and the emptiness of life without Jesus.

...where the issues of our culture are seriously addressed; where the community expects to find a viewpoint both practical and Godly, a viewpoint which must be taken seriously; where God’s people take stands in the community that are courageous and compassionate.

...where growth is not only welcomed, but anticipated as the norm; where the heartbeat of every person is for outreach and inclusion, not for comfortable complacency and seclusion.

Our Values

  • Lost people are important to God.
  • We are in this church to “make disciples”, or, “Christ followers”.
  • All Christians should be devoted disciples of Christ.
  • The church should be relevant to culture and doctrinally pure.
  • Worship should bring people to meet God.
  • God deserves our best!
  • Christ’s love should be seen in our culture through the lives of Believers.
  • Prayer is an important mainstay to the workings of God’s church.
  • Making disciples in our homes is as important as making them at church.
  • Relationships with each other are important to God’s plan.
  • Issues are NEVER more important than People.
  • We are willing to be directed by God’s will today.

Our Teaching

Our faith is contained in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Biblical principles are unchanging and eternal.

Ephesians 4:2-6 essentially sums up our beliefs by saying:

  1. There is one God, eternally existing in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 1:1, 26-27 and 3:22, Psalms 90:2, and Matthew 28:19, Ephesians 1:13-14)
  2. Jesus Christ is Lord, who is the Son of God.  He entered earthly life by virtue of being born of a virgin.  He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for the sins of all mankind.  He arose on the third day and is now at the right hand of God.
  3. The Holy Spirit, the third person in the Godhead who is the indwelling of God in the hearts of men today, provides comfort, strength, understanding, and guidelines to all Christians.  The Holy Spirit is the gift of God at salvation.  (2 Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13, Acts 1:8, 2:38, Ephesians 1:13, 5:18)
  4. The one faith has its source in the writings of men who were inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit to convey the mind of God to Believers.  It is the only source of Truth for our belief and living.  (1 Peter 1:20-21, 1 Timothy 1:13, 2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119, 105, 150)
  5. The one hope is all about salvation.  Since the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden, man has been without hope of eternal salvation.   Salvation is the free gift of God received through faith and expressed through confession, repentance, and baptism.  It must be accepted individually to affect salvation.  With the accepting of Jesus Christ, we are heirs of God, and brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.  It is only by the grace of God that we as sinners are saved.  (Isaiah 53:6, Romans 3:23, 5:1, John 3:16, 14:6, Titus 3:5, and Galatians 3:26)
  6. The one baptism involves our complete surrender to God and trust in the perfect sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  In baptism, we are united with Christ in his death, his burial, and his resurrection.  We are raised to walk in a new life and receive the Holy Spirit.  (John 1:12, Acts 2:27-41, Romans 6:3-8, Galatians 3:26-27, and 1 Peter 3:18-22)
  7. The one body, the body of Christ is the church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to reach those separated from God and mature those who have been restored to God through Christ.  Because of our response to God’s salvation, he adds people to his church, a work of God.  (Romans 6:3, Acts 2:41-47, Ephesians 4:1-16, 5:30)

In areas of debate and opinion, there is liberty.  Romans 14:1, 4 and 12:22

In all things, whether essential or non-essential, we show love at all times.

As You Visit Our Assembly

You will be greeted with a friendly handshake and given a bulletin that includes the order of services for the day.  Those who greet you will gladly help you find your way around.

Classes for all ages begin at 9:15a.m.

Worship service begins at 10:15a.m. and closes about 11:30a.m.

You are invited to participate during the worship service, or you can be a spectator if you wish.  You will notice the following:

PRAYER.  There will be several prayers during the service.  The people leading them will say what is in their heart rather than reading from a prayer book or reciting a prescribed prayer.  This is a time when we communicate directly with God.

MUSIC.  Several songs of praise and prayer will be sung by the congregation.  We welcome you to sing along with us.  We sing without instruments (a cappella) in keeping with the heritage of the churches of Christ.

COMMUNION.  The Lord's Supper is served every Sunday to every person who wishes to partake.  Its purpose is to affirm our relationship to Christ's life and sacrifice on the cross and our relationship to each other as God's children through Christ.

GIVING.  Our members give free-will offerings every Sunday to support the ministries of our church.  Guests are not expected to give unless they wish.

MESSAGE.  A minister will present a relevant Bible message that usually lasts 20-25 minutes.  His messages are designed to be thoughtful and encouraging.  At the end of his message, he will offer an invitation for anyone to express a need.  This is a time when anyone may request prayers from the church or a private prayer with one of our shepherds.  It is also a time when non-Christians can confess their desire to become part of Christ.
