“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13, NIV We desire to be an externally focused group of believers actively listening to and loving those in our path and in our community. The doors of opportunity are plentiful for touching the hearts and lives of those around us the way we envision Jesus would want us to reach out—through humility and service. How Can I Serve? We want to live as Jesus lived, and that means getting out of the church and into our community to serve those in need. When we serve well, with no strings attached, we show Jesus to our neighbors. We encourage you to find individual ways of connecting with our neighbors by serving them. South Brooke Church is committed to finding unique ways of being Christ’s ambassadors to our community through many and varied simple acts of service and kindness. Below is one particular area of ministry that is a uniquely organized approach. How South Brooke Church is making a difference in the Tulsa School District: School Partnerships Wright Elementary School is located just west of Peoria Avenue on 45th. SBC is partnering with this school to provide support to the staff and assistance to the students in the following ways: Half Hour Heros - Lunch Buddies: Volunteers are paired with elementary school students and commit to eating lunch on campus together once a week for the school year. It is through these relationships that students are mentored and come to understand that someone cares for them and is interested in them. Currently we are inviting more volunteers to go to Wright weekly to eat lunch and encourage their lunch buddy student. Half Hour Heros - Reading Buddies: Volunteers are paired with a student at Wright Elementary and commit to a 30-45 minute visit each week to help the student with their reading skills. Back Packs: At the beginning of each school year it is our desire to provide free backpacks filled with school supplies to the students who may not be able to purchase their own. Books: The TPSD has recommended several books per grade level for the students to read. It is our desire to help provide these books to students who may otherwise not be able to build their own library. Teacher Support: SBC is committed to encouraging and supporting the teachers of Wright. In the past we've provided lunch for their teacher in-service training. Our team is committed to providing periodic lunches for the teachers as well as supporting them in various ways throughout the school year. Uniforms: Fall 2009 marks the beginning of required uniform apparel at Wright Elementary. SBC is joining w/ other school partners to determine what students may need assistance this fall.
